Meet the Maker – Jordan Grace Owens, Durham, NC Illustrator, Goods at Gather

Recently, I visited illustrator Jordan Grace Owens in her home/studio in Durham, NC. She lives in a gorgeous light filled studio loft right in the downtown with easy access to all the wonderful restaurants there, Mateo, Pizzaria Toro and Parlour come to mind but gosh there are so many. She shares the space with her boyfriend and two cats. Don’t you just love the super cute Madewell dress she is wearing in the photo below?

Her space is filled with plants, records and art supplies and apart from the desk on one wall housing her paper and paints, you’d never know that she spends her days getting messy with paint. The space reminded me of the first apartment my husband and I shared in downtown Raleigh with huge windows and ceilings and old bones.

She and her boyfriend crafted this awesome plumbing pipe wall shelf from a tutorial on pinterest.

Scattered throughout her place are homey vignettes like this rad triangle shelf displaying vintage photos.

I first met Jordan through The Rock & Shop Market where she applied to be a vendor and was immediately taken by her feminine, line art prints and whimsical portraits painted onto wooden pins and magnets.

At the time she lived in Greensboro about an hour and a half west of the Triangle. She’s now called Durham her home for about six months. Jordan’s background is similar to mine in that she pursued art from an early age but decided to strike it out on her own versus getting a more formal Bachelor’s degree. She did however, get a significant amount of arts training at her art-centered high school which taught her art theory.

I think this tank top she created with her custom printed fabric from Spoonflower is awesome!

This picture of my friend Liz holding one of Jordan’s prints makes me laugh! Topknot, meet your match.

You can find all of these pieces made by Jordan as well as a few more in the Gather shop through the end of November. Gather is located at 111 W. Chatham Street in downtown Cary, NC. Hours are 6:30-2pm M-F & 7-2pm Sat & Sun.
