A maker after my own heart, Lena Corwin is a multifaceted artist, whose work has been translated to fabrics, books, and more. She created a series of compelling collaborative books a few years ago called Lines & Shapes and she has designed textiles for Calvin Klein, Jill Stuart, Anna Sui among other big name fashion and design houses.
Lena’s most recent book, Made by Hand, is gorgeous. The book will hit bookstores October 15th and is filled to the brim with beautifully executed diy tutorials from a host of talented artisans including Caitlin Mociun and Sian Keegan. Lena, like myself, is inspired by beautiful crafts and the artisans making them and is driven to share these skills with others.
A few years ago, Lena turned her brownstone in Brooklyn into a workshop space and invited talented friends to teach classes. This book is a great way to learn and create some of those beautiful craft projects at home and on your own timeline. Some of the craft tutorials in this book include: marbled silk scarves, coil bowls, rotary printed napkins and embroidered pillows.
I’ve long wanted to create a book in this fashion and this lovely book only adds fuel to that fire. Kudos to Lena for creating another piece of art that is beautiful, modern and accessible.
And thank you to Abrams Books for the advance review copy.
