Shop Tour, Villagers in Asheville, North Carolina

In the spring of last year my husband, daughter and I took a 3-day weekend trip up to the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, about four hours from where we live in Raleigh. It was a trip we’d been talking about making for years but hadn’t realized that time had slipped away from us and the last time we had gone had been before our daughter was born, more than seven years or so ago. We did a lot of eating, exploring and wandering into random shops.

I was so happy to stumble into the beautiful Villagers (previously called Small Terrain) store on one of those days. What an inspiring visual feast.

The shop owner, Natalie, who has a Masters in Landscape Architecture and a BFA as well as a background in herbalism has filled the space with beautiful curated collections of all things gardening and green. Bottles and glass jars galore filled with tinctures line the walls, as well as seeds, gifts, cookbooks and gorgeous textiles.

The striking black and white photographs blown up behind the counter are of Natalie’s muses, her grandmothers “who worked tirelessly in the field and kitchen to nourish their families in a time of less convenience.”

I love the displays made from stacked wooden crates and light fixtures made from old metal baskets.
