Campbell Road Nursery is one of my favorite plant nurseries in the Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina area. Their prices are really good, their plants healthy, and they are nice and helpful. They have a huge plant variety and rows and rows of greenhouses.
Like many nurseries their plantings are separated by shade or sun plants, perennials, herbs and annuals.
On a recent visit, in a serendipitous turn of fate, a conversation with the owner revealed that one of their employees designed the backyard of Gather many years ago. The owner even knew many of the plants that were growing back there by memory (like my beloved hellebore).
It’s obvious that the back garden at Gather was well planned many, many years ago with a built in irrigation system even (that doesn’t seem to work from years of neglect), but the plot hasn’t been tended to with the past couple tenants. Though I am pretty good at planning my own small garden I really want to get the most bang for my buck and a site plan from a professional. And that’s partly why I broached the conversation with the owner, just looking for someone to come down and give me some advice – having no clue that these were the very same people that started the garden space there.
I’m excited that I’ll get to work with this great nursery again to revive what they already had a vision for a long time ago. How cool is that? I’m a big believer that things are not by chance and strange coincidences are more than they seem. I love this quote by Roald Dahl “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
