For as long as I remember I’ve had a thing for herbs; their history, flavor and symbolism. In my parent’s backyard I had a sunny little triangular plot of dirt beside the woodpile which was mine and mine alone, and dedicated exclusively to herbs. Inevitably, I started looking for non culinary uses for these plants that I was innately drawn to. At the same time I was starting to realize that there was a connection between what you put in and on your body and your health. I began making teas and homemade masks in my parent’s kitchen, which I then tested out on my friends.
What I love about homemade beauty products is that you can literally whip them up in minutes from things already in your home. This rosemary oatmeal face mask only requires three ingredients: water, rosemary and oatmeal. Rosemary is naturally antiseptic which means it clears out and soothes impurities in your skin.
- ½ cup water
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves
- 2 tablespoons oatmeal
- Mix all ingredients together in blender until smooth. Pour mixture into a heat-proof container and microwave on high for about two minutes. Allow the mixture to cool and thicken before using. Spread the mixture onto clean skin and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse the mask with warm water and store remainder in the refrigerator.
