Opening A Boutique

I’m excited to say I’ve come on board as Creative Director for a new non-profit boutique called kindred that is coming to downtown Raleigh. The shop will incubate emerging designers through mentorship and a boutique. It is a collaboration between myself and Entredot, a group of business owners who specialize in mentoring businesses.

Though in the past I’ve come close to opening my own boutique based on this very same concept (and in this exact same location), I’d ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right time for me to do so. In a serendipitous turn of fate this opportunity presented itself to me unexpectedly and after a lot of soul searching, I realized what a great opportunity this is for me to be a part of. My role is to shape and design the space and the programming and focus on the artisans.

Because this is a non-profit space our funds are limited. I’ve been given a budget of $1000! to upfit the space. It’s like some crazy HGTV special but without the big budget, the glamor and the cameras. $1000 will not go very far in a space this large but I’m going to try my best. I will have to do lots of fundraising to raise money to make the space what I think it should be. My goal is to create a beautiful shop space for artisans to be a part of and for the community to want to frequent.

I’m hosting a silent auction in the under construction space on Thursday July 26th to help raise money for the upfit. I hope to see you there!

These are pictures of the space I took when I was given the keys. As you can see I have my work cut out for me. I anticipate it will take at least until end of August before the space is finished and ready to be open. In the meantime, you can friend kindred on facebook to see more updates or follow on twitter here.
